Manny The Manatee
I am the Official Mannington Swim Club Mascot. I am a sea cow. We are just a little community pool out in the middle of a cornfield. Fifty years ago, the local dairy farmers who worked every day of the year including holidays couldn't take vacations away from the farm to go to Florida. A few of them got together and built Mannington Swim Club to bring Florida a little closer to the kids. Today, the pool still provides a place to socialize and foster a sense of community for the local farmers and citizens, who are sometimes otherwise separated by vast fields. The healthy exercise and fresh air are just an added benefit the kids enjoy without even realizing it is good for them! We do all of this on a shoestring budget—maintaining the pool is expensive and our membership dues only fund about half of our operating budget, so we rely on a lot of fundraising to foot the bill.
